[sc: senatorial candidate ron kirk was born and raised right here in austin and his mother - willie mae kirk - and the rest of his family still reside here. ron's father was the first black postal clerk hired in the city of austin. mr. kirk's roots run deep here in austin and he credits his parents for teaching him the importance of public service and education and being a positive force for change.
TOMORROW is the last day to vote in the runoff election to determine if we will be one step closer to making history by electing the first black man to serve in the senate since the 1800s. mr. kirk was the first black mayor of dallas and the first one of a major city in texas.
but - the reasons to vote for mr. kirk go WAY beyond the color of his skin and his hometown. he's been widely acknowledged as a very effective mayor for dallas and as a consensus builder.
additionally, here's a SMALL sampling of the very diverse group of people who best know about such things and who are endorsing mr. kirk for his run for the senate:
jake pickle
rev. zan holmes
ann richards
henry cisneros
john sharp
eddie bernice johsnon
the black congressional caucus
the congressional hispanic caucus
lloyd doggett
sheila jackson lee
senfronia thompson
dawnna dukes
glen maxey
rodney ellis
yvonne davis
garnett coleman

the mayors of austin, arlington, forth worth and houston
the austin american statesman
the austin chronicle
the fort worth star telegram
the united farm workers union
and for what very little it's worth - add soulciti to this list!
by virtue of his hispanic surname, mr. morales is predicted to heavily carry south texas. we as a people have to put in work to encourage EVERYONE we know to get out and vote for mr. kirk tomorrow and not just assume he will win because everyone has endorsed him, and by a wide margin declared him the more qualified candidate.
we can't sleep on this one my people. we must respond and be proactive to make sure the right candidate wins tomorrow.
AS MUCH as we hate "send this email to everyone on your list" messages, this IS one of those messages. it's a statewide election so send it along to all of your friends throughout texas - and not just the black ones. mr. kirk's endorsement list has crossed all racial and socio-economic boundaries.
a vote for ron kirk is not just a vote for a history-making black man - a vote for ron kirk is a vote for the RIGHT man to do the job.]
