In April of this year, several hundred members of the African- American community came together to participate in the African-American Quality of Life Forums. Funded by the City and facilitated by RJW Group Solutions, the forums served as an opportunity for Austin's African-American community to voice our concerns about our quality of life here in Austin.

Out of those forums and a subsequent townhall meeting at Huston-Tillotson in June, the community developed a list of 58 specific recommendations for the City Council to act upon.

The recommendations were grouped under six categories:
• Arts Culture and Entertainment
• Business and Economic Development
• Police and Safety
• Health
• Neighborhood Sustainability and
• Employment and Education

Since June, the six committees have met regularly to dissect each community recommendation and come up with the action items and budgetary needs associated with each recommendation.

On October 27th, there will be a formal presentation to the City Council outlining the findings and recommendations of the six committees. The committees have established multiple ways for you stay informed of the committees progress:

• Read the Our Quality of Life column in Nokoa or the Villager each week.
• Listen to KAZI’s extended Wake-Up Call on Thursday mornings at 8
Visit the Austin Area Urban League's website for recommendations, updates and frequently asked questions.
• Attend the final Quality of Life community meeting at Huston Tillotson on Saturday, October 22, from 9:30 to noon.

At lastly - we ask that you save the date, Thursday, October 27th, and come to the city council meeting and join the African-American community in a mass showing of support for the recommendations being put forth to the city council.
