  • APRIL 17 | ROBERT JOHNSON: TRICK THE DEVIL
    Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil opens Thursday, April 17, 2008 in the Rollins Theater at the Long Center for the performing Arts. The play runs April 17- 20 and April 23-27, at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sundays.

    ProArts Collective and the Austin Community College District (ACC) drama department will produce this compelling drama about the last days of famed legendary blues artist Robert Johnson.

    Admission is $12 for the general public and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Long Center for the Performing Arts Box Office or online. All proceeds go towards the Boyd Vance Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to an African American drama or dance student.

  • APRIL 18 | HT SPRING FEST COMMUNITY EVENTS
    Huston-Tillotson University campus organizations led by the Student Government Association are taking the lead in unity, community, and environmental awareness as part of Spring Fest 2008 with three events planned.

    The 2008 Louis Gregory Race Unity Symposium, which seeks to develop race unity and features Dr. Richard Thomas, a renowned historian and writer in the field of race relations from Michigan State University, will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in King-Seabrook Chapel on the HT campus at 900 Chicon Street. The event is free and open to the public.

    The step show will be held on Friday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the Mary E. Branch Gymnasium. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for the general public.

    The Fourth Annual Don't Mess with Texas® Campus Cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 19th at 10:00 a.m. with more than 50 students who will pick up litter and debris from Seventh, Chicon, and surrounding streets in efforts to beautify the community and raise environmental awareness.   • APRIL 19 | EAST AUSTIN COMMUNITY CENTER GRAND OPENING & MUSICAL FIESTA
    Southwest Key Programs is celebrating the grand opening of its new East Austin Community Center with a day-long musical fiesta. The public is invited to tour the gleaming new 30,000 square foot mixed-use facility, which is home to an outdoor amphitheater, Café del Sol, the Boys & Girls Club, a fully-equipped AMD community technology center, a hike and bike trail, Southwest Key's national headquarters, and a variety of programs for youth and adults.

    The free family celebration will feature mariachis and ballet folklorico, dragon dancers, prizes, food, a nonprofit exhibit gallery, the City of Austin's Health Connections Mobile Van, and a variety of children's games.
