  • MAY 2 | THE PIANO LESSON AUDITIONS
    Building The Kingdom Productions in association with Killeen Branch NAACP and Juneteenth Celebration will host auditions for "The Piano Lesson" play by August Wilson. Auditions for both singing and non-singing parts will be held on May 2nd and May 5th from 6:00 p.m. at Killeen Parks & Recreation, 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd.

    Set in 1936, The Piano Lesson is a powerful new play from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Fences and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. A sister and brother fight over a piano that has been in the family for three generations, creating a remarkable drama that embodies the painful past and expectant future of black Americans.     The "Wee Savers" workshop will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Carver Library, 1161 Angelina Street. Teens, ages 12 to 16, are invited to a "Wee Savers" workshop that will focus on planning for their futures by making their money work for them! Parents are welcome to attend.     The Junior Women’s Auxiliary of the St. John District Association will host the 3rd annual Teen Gala at 5:00 p.m. The Teen Gala is a night to showcase young ladies ages 12-18.

    We want the community to be assured that there are positive teenage girls being reared to be role models for the future. This year’s theme is, “Who Am I To Be Beautiful, Intelligent, Gifted and Loved? Who Am I Not To Be -“Behold, I Am a Princess Celebrating a Royal Legacy”.

    In conjunction with the gala, a Pre-Gala workshop will be held, April 19th at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will focus on the theme and three specific areas: mind, body, and spirit.
