  • NOVEMBER 28 | GRANT PUBLIC LIBRARY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
    The Regional Foundation Library contains funding sources from The Foundation Center as well as other major materials in fund development, grants and nonprofit management. It provides a full range of print materials and a growing number of electronic resources.

    Because of the availability of electronic information on state and federal grants opportunities, the RFL emphasizes private sector funding options and information (i.e., private foundations and corporate foundation/direct giving programs). Grant advising is available by appointment only. Hours are from 8-5, Monday through Friday.

  • NOVEMBER 28 | IMANI CHURCH PRESENTS IRON SHARPENS IRON MEN'S BIBLE STUDY
    Join the men of Imani Community Church every 4th Saturday at 10AM as we explore and discuss the biblical proof of God's miraculous work in our lives as men and SuperBowl coach Tony Dungy, encouraging men to discover different paths available to achieve a life of significance.

    We will look beyond the standard metrics of success such as a degree, job title or income and instead focus on paths characterized by attitudes, ambitions, and allegiances that are all too rare, but uncommonly rewarding.

  • NOVEMBER 28 | AFRICAN AMERICAN KIDS' BOOKS STORYTIMES AND SIGN LANGUAGE
    Every 2nd and 3rd Saturday, Mitchie's hosts Storytime and Sign Language for Kids at 11 AM-Noon. It will be a joyful hour full of African-American folktales and sign language. Kids receive refreshments, a free gift, and a 30% discount off of a book purchase. Storytime is free and open to the public. Volunteer readers are welcome.

  • NOVEMBER 28 | ENGINEERING SATURDAYS AT THE AUSTIN CHILDRENS MUSEUM
    The Austin Childrens Museum Engineering Saturday program is sure to get your mental gears turning! On select Saturday mornings, children and families can explore engineering first hand through playful activities presented in collaboration with students from The University of Texas's Cockrell School of Engineering.

    Projects could include paper airplane design, catapults, building a working circuit and sailboat cars. Check out this website, designed by a parent, that shows the step-by-step process his daughter took in her sailboat car project at one Engineering Saturday.

    Activities will be held in the Tinkerer's Workshop at 201 Colorado Street and are included with admission unless otherwise noted. Activities change all the time so come by soon for some engineering fun!

The guest minister will be Reverend Tim Ball from Promiseland (West) and a special guest music preformance by R.A.R.E, a gospel rap group from San Antonio, Texas.     ATTENTION EDUCATORS - We are now taking early bookings for the 10:30 am School Matinee performance of Sister Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman, on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 @ Shoreline Center, 10:30 am & 7:30 pm.

    Desert Dance Theatre returns to Austin to both educate and entertain your students with this exciting dance/drama that incorporates dramatic narration, live string quartet, African drumming, company of dancers and guest singers, Huston-Tillotson Concert Choir under direction of Dr. Gloria Quinlan.

    In celebration of Black History Month, this original production brings to life Harriet Tubman's struggles for freedom and has been performed for more than 60,000 students over the last 18 years in Arizona, Texas, and the Southwest. Don't miss it!!

    Texas Worksource Career Center provides the WIA Grant for the Unemployed which pays for federal employment training, adult education, and vocational programs. WIA orientation is available at all three Worksource Career Center locations: 3401 Webberville Road inside the Austin Community College Eastview Building 1000 at 10:00 AM every Friday, 6505 Airport Boulevard in Suite 101 at 1:00 PM every Tuesday and 10:30 AM every Thursday, and 4175 Freidrich Lane in Suite 200 at 10:00 AM every Tuesday. There is also an additional location on 1611 Chisholm Trail in Suite 600. Please call for dates and times. No late attendees accepted.

    Child care is a support service for parents who work, attend school, or participate in job training. Those eligible for child care assistance include children under the age of 13: whose parents are receiving or transitioning off public assistance; or whose families are low-income.

    Austin Community Radio – KAZI 88.7 FM, the oldest non-commercial radio station in Austin, Texas, has launched live streaming of its programming online. Top-rated shows like Democracy Now, The Wake-Up Call, and Talk Time will be made available to listeners around the world.

    KAZI was the dream of late Dr. John Warfield, professor of African-American Studies at the University of Texas. His vision was to create a non-commercial station that served the needs of the African-American community. KAZI remains a strong force in the Austin Community with its unique mix music that caters to varied tastes.

  • DECEMBER 2 | BRICK BY BRICK : BUILDING COMMUNITY BRIDGES DIALOGUE
    Travis County Sheriff’s Office Building Bridges: Brick by Brick community agenda initiative which fosters community building and discussions that cross racial lines and boundaries.

    Theses discussions are held at two locations. The morning forum from 9:00 AM-11:30 PM is held at St. James Episcopal Church on 1941 Webberville Road and the afternoon forum from 3:15-5:15, St. Andrews Presbyterian on 14311 Wells Port Drive.
