DON'T BLAME ARTEST

By Amy Alexander
AFRICANA.COM

It hasn’t taken long for the bloom to fall from the "moral values" rose that reportedly returned Republican President George W. Bush to the White House. POST MFUME: THE SEARCH for a successor

By William Jelani Cobb
AFRICANA.COM

Almost since its inception, in the waning days of Booker T. Washington’s Tuskegee Machine, the post of NAACP president has arguably been the most visible civil rights position in the country. With the noted asterisk of Martin Luther King’s SCLC, the lineage of NAACP heads have wielded more institutional authority and political weight than their peers in the trenches of the civil rights struggle.   DEADLY REVENGE FOR BULLIED KIDS an absurd idea
Some people are going to think I'm insensitive. I refer to the news out of the suburbs of Tacoma, Wash. that three teenagers were arrested last week for allegedly plotting a Columbine-style massacre at their high school. It is unknown how serious the alleged plan was. Authorities say the students -- an 18-year-old female and two males, ages 16 and 18 -- had amassed no weapons and were a long way from carrying out the purported plot.

t is my hope that some day, in my lifetime, the "red states" and the "blue states" of our allegedly United States will become one, indivisible, red, white and blue nation again. But can that happen in the absence of -- heaven forbid -- another national tragedy? And even then, will that solidarity last beyond the final credits of the evening news?

It is my fear that it will not.
